I took this photo a while ago but never put it anywhere, looking back at it I decided I actually quite like it.

BP Portrait Award 2011

I recently went to the National Portrait Gallery and had a look at the BP Portrait award, it was refreshing for me to see a range of painted portraits as it isn't something I have looked into in great detail before. Looking at detail that the artists are able to capture is mind blowing, some were amazingly realistic in the detail that they show. The two portraits above stood out to me the most, the left is Venus as a boy by Wen Wu and the right is Latoya by Alan Coulson. For more info check the NPG's site here.

Both Images are scanned postcards, all copyrights belong to the artists.

Nylon Street view

I bought this today, it highlights style from 7 cities around the world. Features some good photographers and I have to say I am a sucker for street style and a big fan of Scott Schuman who pioneered it. I think that documenting fashion that real people wear everyday is far easier for people to understand rather than elaborate gowns that will only be worn or bought by the very rich who will never wear them due to the impracticality of their design that you see on catwalks. I look forward to flicking through, well done to Nylon!

Film: not dead yet!

I stumbled across this interesting short documentary about photographers still opting for the analogue practises as opposed to digital. It is well worth a watch, you can see it HERE

Jeff Hahn

I stumbled across Jeff Hahns work while browsing a fellow photographers blog, it really stood out to me as he avoids all of the digital v film argument that seems to be absorbing photography these days. He creates beautiful images on a variety of formats, he seems to work with whatever he has to hand which I feel is admirable as it shows that its not about what you use its how you use it. He is incredible creative which oozes out of his work, I love it! He brings something new and I found it incredible refreshing to look at his blog and website because you can forget the bullshit that people are worrying about when they take photos and appreciate his talent. I look forward to seeing more from him in the future, you should check out his site for yourselves HERE.
